How Repair Estimates Work
Honest evaluations. Clear communication. Repair recommendations tailored to your instrument, goals, and budget.
Every instrument that comes through our shop is unique, and so is every repair. While customers often come in with a specific concern in mind, our process is designed to look at the instrument as a whole so we can help you make informed decisions about its care, playability, and long-term health.
Step 1 — Tell Us What Brought You In
When you arrive, we’ll start by discussing the reason for your visit. Whether it’s a setup, fret buzz, electronics issue, crack repair, tuning instability, or something that “just doesn’t feel right,” we want to understand your concerns, goals, and how you use the instrument.
Step 2 — Full Instrument Evaluation
Even if you’re coming in for a single issue, we perform a broader inspection of the instrument as part of our intake process. This allows us to identify:
-
underlying causes of the original concern
-
developing issues that may not yet be obvious
-
wear-related maintenance needs
-
previous repair concerns
-
environmental or humidity-related effects
-
structural or electronic issues that could affect performance or longevity
Our goal is never to “upsell” unnecessary work, but rather to give you a complete and honest picture of the instrument’s condition.
Step 3 — Building Your Estimate
After evaluating the instrument, we’ll put together a repair plan and estimate based on:
-
the instrument’s condition
-
your goals as a player
-
function and reliability
-
cosmetic concerns
-
timeline considerations
-
overall budget
We understand that every customer’s priorities are different. Some players simply want their instrument playing comfortably again, while others may be pursuing a full restoration or long-term investment in the instrument.
Step 4 — Prioritizing Repairs Together
One of the most important parts of our process is helping customers prioritize repairs in a way that makes sense for both the instrument and the budget available.
We’ll walk you through:
-
what should be addressed immediately
-
what may simply need monitoring
-
what improvements are optional
-
what work may be best saved for a future visit
Our philosophy is to balance:
-
function
-
playability
-
structural integrity
-
aesthetics
-
cost-effectiveness
so you can make informed decisions without pressure.
Communication & Approval
We do not proceed with additional repair work beyond the agreed estimate without customer approval. If new concerns are discovered during the repair process, we will contact you before moving forward.
Questions Are Always Welcome
We genuinely enjoy helping players understand their instruments better. Whether you’re a touring professional, collector, hobbyist, beginner, or bringing in a family instrument with sentimental value, we’re happy to explain our findings and help you determine the best path forward.
